The City of Toronto

Toronto is Canada's largest city, the capital of the province of Ontario, and one of the most cosmopolitan, vibrant, and progressive cities in the world!

Did you know...

... that "Toronto" is the Huron Indian word that means "place of meeting"?

... that Yonge Street, one of the main steets, is the longest street in the world (about 1,200 miles/1,800 km long)?

... that the world's tallest building, the CN Tower (which dominates our skyline), has been identified as one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World?

Here are two VERY helpful links to all the things to do and see during the Academy of Management's Annual Meeting in Toronto:

In addition, Toronto has an excellent subway and mass transit system (the TTC). Union Station is located below the Royal York Hotel, and Osgoode Station is located within a short walk of the Sheraton Centre and Hilton.  More information can be found by visiting the TTC or by calling 393-4636.

Why book early?

The Academy of Management in 2000 will coincide with Caribana, North America's largest cultural festival. Every year Caribana turns Toronto into a Caribbean  paradise. The festival takes place at various venues throughout Toronto and features an extravagant parade running along the lakefront. It all happens between July 21 and August 7 of 2000, though the festival might end a little earlier than that.

Caribana will most likely add to the pleasure of visiting Toronto, however, it may cause some complications because approximately 1 million people attend the festival, and quite a few come from out of town. Booking flights and sleeping rooms early will definitely give you an advantage! Housing reservations can be secured via  the Toronto Housing Bureau. Click here for room reservations, and information on airfares, car rentals, passport/visas, t-shirts to benefit the Toronto Covenant House, on-site child care services and shuttle services!!

You can get more information about Caribana at their own site...
