We hope you will submit an activity that will enrich your colleagues' lives, such as sharing your teaching and learning innovations, developing cutting-edge research agendas, or strategies for career management (especially negotiating time, money or resources). Remembering that we will be in New Orleans , perhaps you have a proposal that imaginatively merges careers concepts with jazz, zydeco or blues? We aim to start the PDWs off with a bang on Saturday morning with round table discussions on careers theory building and testing. The afternoon will focus on teaching and learning related issues, while Sunday morning will address specific skill development needs. It would be great if you could develop your ideas around these themes. Submissions need to use the template at

Email: mpbell@uta.eduAs GDO begins celebrating our 20 th anniversary year, we are soliciting ideas for professional development workshops that will help us to “deepen and broaden the scope of diversity research and teaching.” Innovative sessions will be particularly welcomed as will those that are co-sponsored by two or more divisions or interest groups. Though not a requirement, co-sponsorship should be facilitated by our goal of deepening and broadening the scope of diversity research.
Some ideas that have already come up include workshops on: benefits of conducting diversity research for junior and senior faculty (e.g., “Don't Listen! Dare to Do Diversity Research”); religious diversity; and translating diversity research into meaningful practice. If you have ideas about these or other topics, I encourage you to work with colleagues to develop and submit a proposal for a PDW session. The PDW format is flexible and GDO members are welcoming. PDWs provide the opportunity to try or explore something you've considered, to develop and discuss ideas with similarly or dissimilarly minded colleagues, and to grow and share in your diversity learning.
To submit a proposal, you may go to the AOM website and follow the links to complete a simple, web-based PDW
submission form. The submission deadline is 11/10/03 , but earlier submissions are encouraged. If you'd like to discuss an idea before submission, please send an e-mail to Myrtle P. Bell, GDO PDW chair, at mpbell@uta.edu.Health Care Management

We are also dedicated to improving the effectiveness of our HR Division members, and for that we rely heavily on the professional development workshops at the annual Academy of Management Meeting . In order to make these workshops most useful, we encourage all members of the division to consider submitting a proposal about a topic that sparks their interest. These topics can span a wide range of issues including: Teaching (e.g., HR topics you would like to know more; innovative methods; action research); International (e.g., geographical influences on HR practices; HR challenges across cultures; unique approaches to HR); Professional Development (e.g., career transitions; new research
methodologies; work-life balance issues). We are seeking interactive workshops that are based on active, engaged learning, and submitters should be innovative in workshop design. There are many possibilities for PDW formats, including workshops, tutorials, consortia, panels, debates and guest speakers. Please refer to the HR Division's web site (http://www.hrdiv.org) for the HR Division's specific proposal submission form.
If you don't have the time or interest to develop a full workshop, at least pass along your suggestions for topics that we might help arrange a workshop around. For more information about the proposal specifications and due date, please contact Amy Kristof-Brown, HR Division Workshop Chair at amy-kristof-brown@uiowa.edu ; alternatively, Amy can be reached at 319-335-0928. The due date for proposals is October 15, 2003 .
Juan Sanchez and Judy Tansky are working with Amy to coordinate the international and teaching workshops, respectively. Although all proposals will be sent to Amy, feel free to contact Juan (sanchez1@fiu.edu) or Judy (tansky_1@osu.edu) to share ideas for these types of workshops.

Research. The Professional Development Workshop series (PDW) of the Management Consulting Division is a platform for sharing knowledge and expertise about the profession and practice of management consulting, including teaching and research on consulting. The PDW series allows for the in-depth exploration of a range of consulting related issues with enthusiastic and experienced colleagues in a congenial setting. In 2004 the MC Division PDW series will be organized into several tracks including:
· Consulting Skills Track – Devoted to training in applied consulting skills. PDW proposals are invited from experienced consultants, whether academic or full time consulting, concerning a particular skill or practice area.
· Teaching, Research and Consulting Tracks – PDW proposals are sought for presentations on and about consulting research (how to do research, issues in need of research, where to publish) and the teaching of consulting including sharing and developing syllabi, cases, methods, and issues.
Participants and proposals from other divisions are welcome; particularly those involved in the related consulting specialties of IT, Strategy, Operations and HR. PDW presentations are typically one to two hours in length. For further information on the MC Division PDW program or to talk over a PDW proposal idea, contact James M. PDW sessions can take virtually any form (workshop, symposium, town hall meeting, workout sessions, debates, case study, etc.) and can address any issue of concern to management scholars and practitioners. The OB Division encourages the submission of your creative ideas for interactive sessions that share new information, skills, techniques, issues, or questions with session participants. We encourage you to consider, but not be bound by, the conference theme -- Creating Actionable Knowledge – to bring together individuals from academics and practice in any PDW format. Other timely issues, such as ethics, personal career management, Internet-based research tools, funding issues, social capital, networks, free speech and privacy, etc. are also welcomed as PDW topics.
Please organize your PDW ideas using the PDW template available at www.obweb.org and send your completed template to the above email address.

We are looking for innovative and challenging workshops in quantitative and qualitative methodologies that will attract not just members of RMD, but the wider audience as well. The proposed PDW should have an objective to advance the professional development of the RMD and the Academy as a whole by discussing state of the art research methodologies. Please submit a Title, Abstract, Panelists/ Participants, and Key Words to this e-mail address (mailto:gordonc@cuhk.edu.hk) on or before November 4, 2003 . You are welcomed to discuss with me before submitting your proposal.
In addition to the PDWs that we offered in previous years, we are planning to offer a Mini-Lecture Series in the New Orleans Meeting. The target participants will be PhD students and junior faculty members who want to know more about specific qualitative and quantitative methodological issues. The format will be in seminar type and each session will last for 2 or 2.5 hours. Examples of lectures include Latent Growth Modeling, Network Analysis, Programming with LISREL, Scale Construction, etc. If you think you can help in teaching one or more of the lectures, please send me an e-mail (mailto:gordonc@cuhk.edu.hk) by telling me the topic that you want to teach and expected number of sessions required. We will provide close support and logistics for these
mini-lectures.If you want to know more about RMD, please visit the RMDWeb at http://www.aomonline.org/rmd/.

We encourage members to submit proposals that focus on contemporary issues in Asian management, research methods, and professional development topics.
